Derror lives in a relatively isolated nomadic 4000-strong Gnoll tribe which is based in a warm savannah. They occasionally trade gems and animal skins with Elven traders.

Derror never really fitted in with other Gnolls due to social awkwardness and a preference for reading on his own. When he was 17 he found a spellbook while hunting and was able to figure out how to decode its pages to learn how to utilise the magic held within. Unfortunately, this sort of magic is seen as highly suspicious within his tribe so he ended up having to leave home quickly when he overheard someone discussing seeing him practicing his casting.

Spellbook only realy contains Divination and buff spells, other books include 3 novels, 2 nature-based reference books and a basic guide to various religions. Spellbook contains: Detect Magic, Identify (checks history and magical properties of an item), Locate Object, Detect Thoughts (reads surface thoughts), Might (doubles user's physical strength), Haste (doubles target's speed), Shield (creates small energy shield).
