Mundane earth, 2018

Washing dishes through the day and evening.

Full-time cook at a Miami restaurant. Serving a variety of dishes, including from Africa and local specialties.

George was born to Ethiopian parents in 1989 then moved to Miami, Florida in 1993, along with his 3 siblings (1 brother and 2 sisters). It wasn't easy growing up as the second-youngest sibling, but he managed.

Growing up, he was forced to face the reality of racism in elementary school, being teased on a daily basis for his very dark skin color. It caused him great grief as his parents struggled to comfort him. Then he got into American football and it gave him new hope, as he found friends early on. His genetic structure made him a great runner, as he discovered his love for the wide receiver position. He continued to play football during his childhood, but it made his grades suffer, which made his parents mad. A compromise was made and he pulled his grades back up after finding a balance between education and sport. He had a mostly typical pubescent period, playing football and hanging out with his teammates a lot.

After graduation, he entered culinary arts school as he found a passion for cooking thanks to his mother. But growing up in a football-crazy high school, he took the chance to enter college on a football scholarship. For the next 3 years, he cooked in class and played football afterwards. His play was noticed by a few scouts, who asked him to enter the NFL Combine in his third year. His parents were not exactly thrilled, but George took it upon himself to give it a try, with cooking as his backup plan.

While he was able to impress, he went undrafted, much to his disappointment, but he kept going and eventually graduated college with a diploma. His first job was tough as a local restaurant hired him as a dishwasher. Times were tough but he ground through until eventually an African-style restaurant hired him as a starting cook and he started working his way up.

One night, he was at home alone, grabbing a drink until he heard a noise outside. A burglar was trying to sneak into an empty apartment. He opened the door and the burglar darted off. George chased him out and down the street, until he stumbled and fell into something big and glowing red, that turned his life upside down.
