| Yesterday at noon, a large iron-hulled steamship emerged from the fog and ran aground off of the Southern seawall. (See grid 02/22). One person was aboard, the captain, who was rescued by witnesses to the wreck. The captain could not be reached for interview, but it is assumed bad weather drove the ship ashore. Two lifeboats were confirmed launched, but could not be located by searchers, and are not assumed to be in Infinitas waters. For the next few days, tugboats will try to refloat the ship and move her to the harbor for repairs. A local artist has sketched an image of the ship, the SS Marengo. .jpg) | |
