  • Description:
Janus is an attractive young human female. She has pale skin and ginger hair, but a smooth complexion (very few freckles). Also different from her standard human appearance, she has pointed furred ears like those of a lynx, and a long feline tail of a solid color, like a cougar's. There's a certain unplaceable alieness to her though, the robes she frequently wears have runes embroidered that almost seem comprehensible.
Homeworld
Standard Earth
History
Personal
Initially, Janus lead a fairly unremarkable life on Earth, growing up around the turn of the millenium and going to college. Janus was a boy back on Earth, but that changed when a red breach pulled him from his old life and onto old infinitas. The change made Janus a girl, and a young one at that, only 10 years old. It also manifested the tome she's familiar with. Janus initially got herself aged up (And had her feline features added as a bonus) and began working while studying the tome, its call irresistible. She initially made little progress, but when she reached the section on wand lore is when she really began making major progress. She's since signed up with the Mages guild, and has been able to make a living by letting others read from her tome, the knowledge within is highly valuable to any who wish to expand their horizons.

Items
Tome of Knowledge (Edit)
Her primary magical item: This is a magical tome that is generally uncomfortable for most to look at. Janus can read the contents just fine, but when most other people try reading it, it seems to be saying bits they can understand, but together comes out as gibberish. The contents constantly change. The book is very tightly magically bound to Janus, almost like it's a part of her. If she gets more than 30 or so feet from it, it vanishes and reappears on her person. It teaches her many magical secrets.

It's possible for others to benefit from this, but to be able to comprehend the book, they must form a strong magical connection with Janus. The stronger the bond, the more comprehensible the contents. To this end, Janus has found that being bound as a familiar (Or binding someone as her familiar) creates a strong enough bond to work. When the other subject has this bond and uses most of Janus' senses, the book reads like an extremely well written text book on some subject the reader is familiar with, allowing them to expand their knowledge. A weaker connection is still comprehensible, but then tends to read like a more poorly written or jargon-laden book.
Weapons
Wands
  • Using wandlore learned from her tome, Janus has crafted several wands that are specialized to certain spells. Her main spells are:

Fire: Janus can shoot firebolts, or use more power to shoot explosive fireballs or create waves or walls of flames.
Rift: Janus can teleport a short distance (as per the spell dimension door)
Transmute: Janus can cast polymorph, albeit to a limited degree and without upkeep, it'd only last an hour or two.
Shield: Janus can create a shield in one direction that she can maintain, or an omnidirectional shield that collapses in a few seconds. It can be overwhelmed, but could potentially stop a few bullets or magic attacks.

The Storm (Edit)
  • This is a magical sword that Janus has created using an extremely complicated and time consuming process called aspect infusion. She distilled the concept of "sharpness" from hundreds of lesser blades (Mass produced razor blades really) and applied it all onto this light rapier. The result is a blade which is so sharp, it shears electrons from their atoms, which tends to produce sparks as the sword is swung through the air. Though the effect is not enough to split atomic nuclei, the edge is so effective because it has a leading edge of magic, with the dedicated effect of "part anything along this plane." It never needs to be sharpened, and can cut through most armor like butter. It's not quite as effective as a lightsaber, since there does still need to be the force to physically separate whatever is being cut.

    • Training:
Upon figuring out that she could create enchanted weapons, Janus took up the occasional class with adventurers on swordplay. She's not really ready at a competitive level, but now knows how to handle a blade well enough.
Non-combat
  • Various crafts
    • Description:
Janus' higher magic possibilities (alchemy and infusion) require mechanisms, so Janus has picked up basic levels of metalworking, glassworking, and goldsmithing (for enchanted baubles). Some of this is from classes, some of it is techniques she learned from the Tome.

Thaumaturgy (Edit)
  • Description:
On her own, Janus has fairly unremarkable amount of magic strength. However, her red breach gave her something much better: a tome which could seemly teach her all kinds of magical secrets. Janus learns magic by studying this tome and practicing the techniques it reveals to her. The magics Janus can learn are varied, but largely revolve around a theme of having to understand something to change it. So she’s somewhat like a classic Wizard in this way. She can cast basic spells on her own, but has already created a handful of tools (wands mainly) to help her cast much more powerful spells.
  • Limits:
Must be able to fully understand an intended effect, and usually requires a wand, staff, or other magic bauble to be able to cast more powerful spells.
  • Repercussions:
Initially Janus didn't notice any, but lately has had headaches, dizzy spells, and random bouts of tiredness hit her when she's been doing complex or heavy magic.
Alchemy (Edit)
  • Description:
One of her more useful skills is aspect based alchemy and infusion enchanting. As a form of mental trick, she has to examine and ‘understand’ an object, and comes to recognize certain aspects of it. She then can do a process where she breaks the object down into a magical slurry, those aspects now able to be extracted via alchemical processes (read: fancy glasswork and chemistry-style processes). Once separated, those aspects can be re-infused to other objects. She can make novel enchanted items or even whole new materials like this.

New materials she makes with aspect based alchemy have their traits as a fundamental aspect of them. For example, if she created the ‘flight’ aspect, material infused with it would naturally float in midair, regardless of mass or buoyancy. Once complete, these infusions are stronger than most normal enchantments. Looking at raw essence is actually discomforting to most people.
  • Limits:
Obtaining any amount of an aspect requires breaking down and usually destroying an object that has some of that aspect. Furthermore, properly doing so requires a significant amount of alchemical glasswork, and the resulting slurry is highly unstable, if exposed to air it rapidly becomes corrupted and becomes a magically toxic gas.
Infusion (Edit)
  • Description:
One of her more useful skills is aspect based alchemy and infusion enchanting. As a form of mental trick, she has to examine and ‘understand’ an object, and comes to recognize certain aspects of it. She then can do a process where she breaks the object down into a magical slurry, those aspects now able to be extracted via alchemical processes (read: fancy glasswork and chemistry-style processes). Once separated, those aspects can be re-infused to other objects.

She can perform a type of enchantment called infusion with this technique, creating by pulling abstract aspects out of an object in the act of processing it. These aspects are more abstract and are partially created by Janus as she breaks down an object, having to do with the function of an object. Successfully infusing it into objects causes them to magically be better at what it is. The fundamental example is the sharpness aspect- by pulling it out of dozens of razor blades and focusing it into just one knife, that knife now cuts far better than it otherwise could. Focusing enough lets it go from extremely sharp, to monomolecular edge, to magical ‘part these materials along this plane’ sharpness. Generally to get any sort of useful effect, it has to be put on an object which Janus perceives as being able to make use of it. For example, putting an aspect of sharpness on a pillow wouldn’t make a pillow with a cutting edge, it would make it so the fabric is made of fibers of sharp material like fiberglass.
  • Limits:
Obtaining any amount of an aspect requires breaking down and usually destroying an object that has some of that aspect. Furthermore, infusing onto anything bigger than a dagger has proven to be extraordinarily unstable, usually resulting in the object self-destructing. However, Janus has, with months of tireless work, created a complex magical device and ritual that can infuse much larger objects safely.
